Memorandum of Understanding

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed to regulate cooperation between Sicily and Malta

In the framework of the initiatives to boost cooperation based on the Interreg Project Italia Malta Iknow, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed last 26th march between the Science and Technology Park of Sicily, Malta’s Ministry for Research, Innovation and Coordination of Post-Covid-19 Strategy, and the Med Europe Export. The agreement was promoted by Prof. Andrea Cirà of the University of Messina and Mr. Galea, a counsellor of Malta Ministry for Research.

 

The purpose of the MoU is to develop broad cooperation in academic, applied and industrial research by promoting a joint participation in international projects involving researchers and user communities linked to stakeholders.

 

A special focus will be placed on encouraging and boosting economic development between the two islands by promoting and supporting SMEs in accessing foreign markets and new entrepreneurial opportunities to create jobs, added value and intellectual property.

 

The cross-border web platform of the IKNOW project ‘Open Innovation Service Lab Platform’  will be the acceleration tool to strengthen the creation of an ecosystem by sharing knowledge and skills with a cooperative attitude so to establish partnerships and business opportunities.

 

Professor Andrea Cirà of the Economics Department of the University of Messina (a partner of the project), who has worked hard to finalize the MoU, will be the coordinator for Sicily and will be in charge of opening an office in Malta and one in Sicily. The purpose is to keep exchanges and initiatives resulting from cooperation going.
